Baby Wren

Had to do a little editing with this picture, which is why it's taken so long!

I took this when I went on holiday, there were literally 6 baby wrens hopping about in the bushes surrounding our camping field and they woke you up every morning.
When I realised what they were I wanted a picture of one so spent the better part of an hour following them around; they followed their parents in a continuous circle around the campsite, so they don't exhaust all of the insects in one area.

It got really irritating. At one point I was stood on a dry-stone wall and one of the babies (seriously, they have no fear) landed right next to my foot and tapped my shoe with its little beak a few times to investigate it. Now that irked me, because the lense I had on the camera wouldn't focus on an object that close, so I sat there swearing for a few minutes before following them around again.

Eventually one stayed still long enough for me to focus on him. I had it on the sports setting so was rapidly taking a load of pictures of the baby bird sat on a barbed wire fence when what happens? Its parent lands on the wire above it and it promptly starts begging as I'm taking pictures!

I'm really proud of this picture because its one of those ones where you need 20% skill, 20% placing of the shot and 60% pure luck!! XD
